I’ve been woefully behind on reading as much as I would like to this year, but I did want to highlight one series that I’ve been enjoying—and this time it’s a YA/upper middle grade series that I started reading with my daughter. It’s fantasy but feels much more like grounded historical fantasy and not so much like a magic-system based high fantasy.
The Ascendance series by Jennifer A. Nielsen has been SO much fun for us to read together—except now she’s plowed ahead and has finished book four while I still am at the beginning of book three. (Serves me right, I was waiting for her to finish book two and started a different series that I’m currently reading and then she blew past me. 😂)
If you’re a parent, do you read book series with your kids? I’ve found it’s a fantastic way to not only connect with them but inspire them to read. My kids looove to buddy read. And you’ll find no complaints from me on that one. 😍
